Prometheus

TEASER

Thugs sneak through the underbrush.

DEMOPHON
Come on! This way!

The thugs sneak into Xena and Gabrielle's camp and Demophon cuts off Xena's head.

DEMOPHON
I killed Xena, Warrior Princess!

He picks up the head, but it's a watermelon. Xena jumps down from the tree with a yell and fights the thugs, while Gabrielle sleeps through the whole fight. During the battle, one thug grabs a knife and throws it, but Xena flips out of the way with a yell, lands on the thug and punches him. The dagger, on the other hand, plants itself into Demophon's throat. Xena moves to aid Demophon.

XENA
I can still save your worthless hide, if you just
hold still. Gabrielle?!

GABRIELLE
All right!

She doesn't get up.

XENA
Gabrielle!

GABRIELLE
I was in the middle of the best-

She looks around.

GABRIELLE
I missed something.

XENA
Get me that small knife out of my saddle bag.
(to Demophon) Your windpipe's been severed.
I'll have to cut you a new breathing hole.

GABRIELLE
Who are these guys?

XENA
I'm guessing bounty hunters.

Xena helps Demophon.

GABRIELLE
Are you all right?

XENA
Fine. Our melon didn't do so well. Hold still.

Xena pokes Demophon a new hole.

XENA
Gabrielle, bandage the wound. You'll be able to
breathe out of that hole until your windpipe heals,
or until somebody hangs ya.

GABRIELLE
Do you realize that you just saved the life of a
man who was going to kill you? See, you are a
good person, Xena.

The thug who threw the dagger gets up, but Xena kicks him and he falls down unconscious. Gabrielle doesn't notice.

XENA
Thanks.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Night.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Inn.

INNKEEPER
The gods are really mixing it up tonight. You'd
think I was running a hospital with this kid and
your friend.

XENA
He's not my friend. In fact, he tried to kill me.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
One Prometheus' arms and then legs is chained.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Demophon starts to gag. Xena runs to his side and tries to help him. The sick kid starts to sway.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Prometheus' other arm and leg are chained.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Demophon dies.

XENA
I lost him.

GABRIELLE
You did what you could.

XENA
This doesn't make sense. I've used this technique
before. It's never failed.

The kid coughs and dies. Xena feels his pulse.

GABRIELLE
Xena, what's happening?

XENA
He's dead.

INNKEEPER
Two people die in my inn in one night. Talk
about bad omens.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Prometheus screams.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Inn.

GABRIELLE
What was that?

XENA
The screams of Prometheus. This is no coincidence.

INNKEEPER
What are you talking about?

XENA
Prometheus has been captured by the gods.

GABRIELLE
The bards say, that, if Prometheus is ever bound,
then Mankind starts to lose the gifts he gave us.

INNKEEPER
Like fire?

XENA
And the ability to heal ourselves.

END OF TEASER

ACT ONE

Xena and Gabrielle move along.

GABRIELLE
How do you know you're supposed to visit this
particular oracle if Prometheus is captured?

XENA
I just know.

GABRIELLE
Hey, you're plenty mysterious enough, without
having to work at it. Are you going to give me a
straight answer?

XENA
A friend told me.

GABRIELLE
A friend. Who?

XENA
Just a friend. There it is. If I'm not back by nightfall,
I want you to leave this place.

Xena leaves.

GABRIELLE
I take it, this isn't going to be your typical,
run-of-the-mill trip to an oracle.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Io and her maids dance. Xena enters and Io leaps down and lands before her kneeling.

IO
What will you give?

XENA
What?

IO
A lock of hair? A fingernail? A finger?

XENA
I don't understand.

IO
You want to free Prometheus, don't you?

XENA
Yes.

IO
Then, what will you give?

XENA
My life, if I have to.

IO
We'll see.

She pulls a rope which opens the mouth of a stone snake. Io ties the rope and places a candle underneath it.

IO
You better hurry.

Xena looks into the mouth to see a long, tiny tunnel.

XENA
What am I supposed to do?

IO
Get the tablet; it holds the key. Try to interfere
with the flame, and you'll never free Prometheus.

Xena looks again and sees the tablet in the tunnel.

IO
The chain. Do you have the strength to pull it down?

Xena moves her upper body into the snake with the large stone fangs (which would kill her if they fell) and starts to pull the tablet towards her with the chain. The tablet slowly moves towards her, but gets stuck.

IO
Not much time.

Xena looks at the candle. She pulls up the tablet. Io and her maids watch. Xena pulls the tablet as far as it will go, but she needs to move in more to reach it. Xena grabs the tablet and moves out, just as the rope breaks and the mouth comes flying down. Though it misses Xena, it gets the tablet and shatters it. Io and her maids clap.

IO
You were willing to lose a hand. Very impressive.
Don't worry about the tablet. It said nothing.

XENA
I didn't come here to play games.

IO
Well, that was no game. It was a test to
see how much you were willing to sacrifice.
You passed.

XENA
Tell me what I came to hear.

IO
If you want to free Prometheus, you must go to
Vulcan Mountain, and enter the cave of Hephaestus.
There, you will find a sword. It's the only tool that
can break the chains that bind Prometheus.

XENA
Then I'll get it.

IO
Warriors loyal to the temple of Hera will try to
stop you from freeing Prometheus. Don't take
them lightly. They're fierce fighters and they're
not afraid to die.

XENA
Neither am I.

IO
Before you go, I must tell you one more thing
about that sword.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Outside.

GABRIELLE
You made it.

XENA
You had faith, didn't you?

GABRIELLE
Well, of course. Never a doubt. You always
come through.

XENA
Gabrielle, what if, one day, I don't come through?

GABRIELLE
(laughs) That's not gonna happen.

XENA
But if it does, what would you do?

GABRIELLE
I--I'd become a traveling bard.

XENA
You'd be good at that. Shouldn't you have some
schooling first?

GABRIELLE
That would be great.

XENA
Where's the best place to study that kind of thing?

GABRIELLE
Athens, at the academy. Why are we talking
about this? It's--it's depressing. Nothing's gonna
happen to you.

XENA
You're probably right.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Statius's shop along the road.

XENA
Xena, look! How cute!

STATIUS
Ah! Headed for Vulcan Mountain, are we? Come
in come in, you'll want a memento of your visit.

GABRIELLE
Well, we're kind of in a hurry, but-

He pulls Gabrielle in. Xena shakes her head and follows.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Inside.

STATIUS
I have just what you're looking for. This work of
art was sculpted by one of Athens' finest craftsmen,
and we're talking only five dinars.

GABRIELLE
This looks like Mount Olympus.

STATIUS
It's a remarkable resemblance between the two peaks.

GABRIELLE
Not really.

STATIUS
Oh, sure there is. Not from this angle, of course.
You have to look at it from the other side. No, this
is no good for a smart girl like you, anyway.
How about a nice box of lava rocks, hmm?

Xena puts her hand on the box.

XENA
How far is the cave of Hephaestus?

STATIUS
You don't want to go there. It's a dangerous
place. I sell you a replica. Save you the trouble.
This is so lifelike, it gives me the chills.

XENA
How far is it?

STATIUS
You know, I have a very attractive map of the area,
suitable for framing.

Xena grabs him by the collar and pulls him close.

XENA
I'm not going to ask you again.

STATIUS
Not far at all. It's on the north side of the mountain.
You--you just bear to the right.

She lets him go.

XENA
Wait here.

Xena leaves.

STATIUS
Would you be interested in a scroll signed by
the great god Hephaestus, himself, hmm?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Prometheus is chained.

PROMETHEUS
Hera, this won't work. You'll never break the spirit
of mankind.

Only Hera's eyes are seen.

HERA
Yes I will. As they lose your gifts, they'll lose hope.

PROMETHEUS
One of them will set me free.

HERA
I've taken precautions to ensure that won't happen.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Xena rides.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Inside the Cave of Hephaestus. A soldier. follows her. Xena kicks and hits him several times. He stumbles, but does not fall. Xena has a worried look, but then the soldier falls.

XENA
The bigger they are...

Xena heads off. She hears a noise.

XENA
Do you want the same as your friend?

Xena turns to see group of soldiers. She runs into the cave. The soldiers follow.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Xena runs into a passageway and hears a scrapping sound. She jumps up and puts her hands and feet against the wall, as spikes raise from the ground. A soldier is stabbed in the leg. Xena flips down and keeps running. The soldiers follow.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Xena runs in another passageway and sets off a huge hammer which swings down. She ducks and the hammer takes out two soldiers. It passes overhead again and back into place. Xena keeps running.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
In a third passageway, Xena turns to fight the remaining soldiers, but a pit opens and both her and the two soldiers fall in. Xena screams and there's the sound of bodies hitting water. Xena's hands come over the side and she pulls herself up.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Xena finds the sword in a stone. She draws her sword and places it in her side sheath. She then pulls out the sword of Hephaestus (with some effort) and leaves.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Outside. Xena moves along (the Sword of Hephaestus in her back sheath) to find Hercules standing with Argo.

XENA
Hercules?

HERCULES
Give me the sword, Xena.

Xena draws her sword and runs at Hercules, ululating.

END OF ACT ONE

ACT TWO

Hercules grabs a sword sized stick and fights Xena.

HERCULES
I can't let you do this!

XENA
You don't have a choice.

They keep fighting.

HERCULES
Xena, I'm not gonna fight. With Prometheus captured,
a scratch could kill you.

Xena flips onto Argo.

XENA
Just you worry about yourself!

Xena rides off. Hercules throws down the stick and follows on foot.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Statius' shop.

GABRIELLE
This one actually says 'Mount Olympus' on the bottom.

STATIUS
Oh, you're right. I've obviously been ripped off.
Damned, unscrupulous artisans. Look at this-

Iolaus enters.

STATIUS
-a piece of the shell Aphrodite came ashore on.

IOLAUS
Hello.

STATIUS
Hello. You're the one interested in the Aphrodite
shell, right? Better snap it up quick before he
gets it. Five dinars.

IOLAUS
I'm afraid you have me confused with someone
else. I wanna know if you've seen a friend of mine.
He's, uh, tall, broad shoulders, big arms, very handsome.

STATIUS
Hercules. I haven't seen him, but I have the cradle
he was nursed in.

GABRIELLE
Why are you looking for Hercules?

IOLAUS
I have something he needs.

GABRIELLE
So you know him?

IOLAUS
Yeah.

GABRIELLE
How well?

IOLAUS
Well, he's my best friend.

GABRIELLE
Really, hmm?

IOLAUS
Yeah.

GABRIELLE
Hmm. Would you mind if I asked you a personal question?

IOLAUS
I suppose not.

GABRIELLE
What's it like to be friends with someone like
Hercules? Do you find it a little intimidating? Do
you know what I mean?

IOLAUS
Well, I'm not sure.

GABRIELLE
Well, isn't it hard to just stand around while he's
doing all these heroic labours?

IOLAUS
Well, I don't just stand around. I'm right there
with him, fighting by his side.

GABRIELLE
Maybe I'll try that. You see, I have a friend who's
a little bit on the intimidating side.

Xena enters.

IOLAUS
Who might that be?

GABRIELLE
Her. Xena, guess who he knows?

XENA
Hercules?

GABRIELLE
You're so good.

IOLAUS
Hello, Xena.

XENA
Iolaus.

STATIUS
Is anyone going to buy anything?

GABRIELLE
You know him?

XENA
We have a history. Come on, we're in a hurry.
Let's go.

IOLAUS
Xena-

Xena draws her sword.

XENA
Don't you take another step.

GABRIELLE
What are you doing? He's with Hercules.

XENA
That's exactly why I don't want him at our back.

Xena and Gabrielle leave.

STATIUS
I've got a Dionysian love potion could really mellow
out a pretty lady like that. Ten dinars.

Iolaus leaves.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Prometheus is chained.

PROMETHEUS
Hera, why are you doing this?

HERA
Prometheus, you waste your affections on mankind.
There are other creatures much more worthy of
respect. Observe.

A winged reptile flies by.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hercules and Iolaus move along.

YOUNG WOMAN
Hercules? Yesterday, my brother cut his hand
on a knife and now he's very ill. Please, do something.

HERCULES
I'm gonna do everything I can. I promise.

IOLAUS
You know, I don't understand. What would Xena
want with that sword?

HERCULES
She plans to free Prometheus with it.

IOLAUS
So, why don't you two work together?

HERCULES
'Cause she knows I won't let her strike the blow
that breaks the chains.

IOLAUS
Wait a minute. People are dying of scratches, and,
you two are concerned about who gets the credit?

HERCULES
That's not what this is about.

IOLAUS
Well, it sure sounds like it. Hercules, I thought
you cared about her.

HERCULES
I do care about her.

IOLAUS
Then let her strike the blow.

HERCULES
Iolaus, I can't. Just...trust me.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
A barn.

GABRIELLE (voice-over)
So do you think that Iolaus is-

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Inside.

GABRIELLE
-still in love with you?

XENA
His love turned to hate for a while. I'm
not sure how he feels about me, now.

GABRIELLE
What about Hercules, hmm?

XENA
What about him?

GABRIELLE
You're not much for girl-talk, are you?

Xena draws her sword.

GABRIELLE
Of course, you're not like most girls.

XENA
Get back.

Hera's men enter. Gabrielle moves behind Xena and Xena fights the men. Xena knocks them all down, but they get back up. Hercules jumps in.

HERCULES
Hi.

Iolaus jumps in.

HERCULES
That's a nice sword.

Xena, Iolaus and Hercules fight while Gabrielle watches. The soldiers are all knocked out and the heroes turn their backs. A soldier gets up and draws the Sword of Hercules from Xena's back sheath. He moves to kill Xena, but Hercules holds his gauntlet in the way and the sword hits it instead. The soldier is turned to ashes.

XENA
You all right?

HERCULES
Fine. I blocked it with my gauntlet.

IOLAUS
Now I understand.

GABRIELLE
Give me a hint.

IOLAUS
Hercules' gauntlets are forged by Hephaestus.
So are the chains that bind Prometheus.

GABRIELLE
So if Prometheus' chains are struck by that sword-

IOLAUS
The sword handler turns to ashes.

GABRIELLE
So it's a suicide mission.

Hercules and Xena moves for the sword. Hercules gets it.

HERCULES
I'll strike the blow.

XENA
I won't let you do that, Hercules.

GABRIELLE
You two have got to work together.

HERCULES
Your friend is right. Hera will put plenty of obstacles
in our way. We made a pretty good team once.

XENA
Yeah, we did. All right, we work together. But it's
still not decided who'll use the sword to break
the chains.

HERCULES
It is, as far as I'm concerned.

XENA
We'll see.

Xena moves off.

GABRIELLE
Hercules, we haven't been properly introduced.
My name is Gabrielle.

HERCULES
Oh, well, it's nice meeting you, Gabrielle.

GABRIELLE
Um, if I'm not too obsessive, can I ask you a few
questions about your labours?

HERCULES
Well, you know, actually, Iolaus is the one to ask.
You see, he knows all the facts. And he loves to
hear himself talk.

Hercules moves off.

GABRIELLE
Would you mind?

IOLAUS
No, not at all. Ah, why don't you go ahead, and I'll,
uh, catch up later.

GABRIELLE
All right.

Gabrielle moves off and Iolaus sticks his hand under his vest. He looks at it and sees blood. He follows.

END OF ACT TWO

ACT THREE

Hercules and Xena walk along, Gabrielle and Iolaus a distance behind them.

HERCULES
I've been hearing a lot about you.

XENA
Don't believe everything you hear.

HERCULES
From what I heard, I want to believe. You've been
helping people.

XENA
Someone taught me it's the only reason to be
on this Earth.

HERCULES
Now, who would that be?

XENA
Some legendary hero. I forget his name. Do you
think we should cut through that pass over there?

Hercules looks and Xena tries to get the sword. Hercules stops her.

HERCULES
Nice try.

XENA
It should be me.

HERCULES
Why?

XENA
'Cause the world needs Hercules.

HERCULES
It needs Xena, too.

XENA
Come on, people would hardly miss me. But
you, you give hope to so many.

HERCULES
You underestimate yourself.

XENA
You're not using your head.

HERCULES
Well, sometimes in life, you go with your heart,
not your head.

XENA
What does that mean?

HERCULES
That means I can't let you die, if I can do anything
to stop it.

Hercules continues on. Xena follows.

XENA
(to Gabrielle and Iolaus) Come on, you two.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mountain.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cave.

GABRIELLE
Hey Xena, I thought we were going up the mountain.

Xena laughs.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Inside. Hercules and Gabrielle holds torches.

HERCULES
These caves and tunnels work their way up to
the top.

XENA
We better hurry.

GABRIELLE
How did you find out about these caves, Hercules?

HERCULES
I came here a long time ago with my father.

GABRIELLE
Your father, Zeus, the king of the gods, the
maker of all creations?

HERCULES
Yeah.

GABRIELLE
Huh. He's about as talkative as you are.

XENA
Yep.

GABRIELLE
(to Iolaus) Actually, you know, I feel much more
comfortable around a normal guy like you. Oh,
I meant that as a compliment.

IOLAUS
Thanks. I'll take it that way.

Iolaus grimaces.

GABRIELLE
Are you sure you're all right?

IOLAUS
Yeah, fine. No.

Gabrielle pulls back his vest.

GABRIELLE
Iolaus.

IOLAUS
It's all right it's just a small wound.

GABRIELLE
We've lost the ability to heal ourselves. Even a
small wound could kill you.

IOLAUS
I'm fine.

GABRIELLE
I'll get Xena and Hercules.

IOLAUS
Gabrielle, wait. They can't do anything until
Prometheus is free.

GABRIELLE
Well, then you should rest here.

IOLAUS
I can't, not when the whole world's at stake. I
wanna help. Please, Gabrielle.

Xena runs in.

XENA
Are you two coming?

GABRIELLE
Yeah. Yeah, we'll be right behind you.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The four move along. Rocks fall.

XENA
Run! Run! Look out, Gabrielle!

A rock falls and Hercules catches it.

IOLAUS
Just like old times, huh?

HERCULES
If you mean, I'm doing all the work again, you're right.

Everyone is safe. Hercules drops the rock and follows.

XENA
Come on, you two!

Gabrielle trips and falls into Iolaus, pinning him against the wall. He cries out.

XENA
Are you all right?

IOLAUS
Never better.

GABRIELLE
I'm sorry. (to others) Iolaus was wounded back
in the barn.

XENA
Why didn't you tell us?

HERCULES
Because, he's brave of heart, and hard of head.

XENA
You'll have to wait here.

IOLAUS
No.

XENA
If you stand any chance of making it 'til Prometheus
is released, it'll be because you've rested.

HERCULES
She's right.

IOLAUS
I can make it! Oh! Ah!

GABRIELLE
I'll stay with him.

IOLAUS
Ah! Here.

Iolaus gives Hercules the water bag.

GABRIELLE
Xena.

XENA
Hey.

Xena and Gabrielle hug.

GABRIELLE
Be careful.

Iolaus and Hercules clasp hands.

IOLAUS
Hercules, goodbye.

HERCULES
What do you mean, "Goodbye"?

GABRIELLE
Don't strike the blow.

XENA
Be brave.

HERCULES
You'll be fine. You're too ornery to die.

IOLAUS
Yeah, but even if I do make it...

Hercules touches Iolaus' shoulder and moves off. Xena and Gabrielle hold hands. Xena passes her torch to Hercules and moves to Iolaus. They clasp hands. Xena and Hercules move off.

GABRIELLE
Let's go somewhere safe.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hercules and Xena move along.

XENA
Hercules?

HERCULES
Yeah.

XENA
There's something I've been wanting to say to
you for a long time. You changed my life. You
taught me how to live. I'll never forget
you for that. Thanks.

HERCULES
Well, there's something I have to tell you, too.
When my wife died, I never thought I'd meet anyone
who made me feel the way she did. But then I
met you.

XENA
Oh, come on.

HERCULES
No, I mean it. Why do you think I told you what
oracle to go see if Prometheus was ever captured?
Because, I knew I could trust you with that secret.

XENA
Well, I guess we're lucky to have found one another.

HERCULES
Yeah, we are.

Hercules and Xena kiss. Xena moves to steal the sword, but Hercules stops her again.

HERCULES
You never give up, do you?

XENA
Nope.

HERCULES
Good, neither do I.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Elsewhere. Iolaus rests his head in Gabrielle's lap.

IOLAUS
Gabrielle.

GABRIELLE
Yes?

IOLAUS
If you see Xena again, will you tell her something
for me?

GABRIELLE
You can tell her.

IOLAUS
Yeah, just in case.

GABRIELLE
All right.

IOLAUS
Tell here, there are no hard feelings. I'm--I'm
proud to have known her.

GABRIELLE
She's really special, isn't she? Sometimes, I
wonder what she sees in me.

IOLAUS
I see it. You have a pure heart. That is wonderful
to be around.

GABRIELLE
Shhh! Be quiet.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Xena and Hercules move along.

HERCULES
It has to be here someplace.

Their torch goes out.

HERCULES
Uh-oh.

XENA
The gift of fire. It's gone.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The torch with Gabrielle and Iolaus goes out.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Xena and Hercules look about.

XENA
Look.

They see the opening that leads to the surface of the mountain.

HERCULES
This is it. You ready?

XENA
Mm-hmm.

Hercules throws the grappling hook. It's secure.

HERCULES
All right. I'll go first.

Xena moves behind Hercules and draws her sword.

XENA
Gabrielle wants to go to an academy for bards
in Athens. Make sure she gets there.

Xena knocks out Hercules. She takes the Sword of Hephaestus, kisses him, sheaths the sword and climbs up the rope.

END OF ACT THREE

ACT FOUR

Xena gets to the top. She cuts the rope. Prometheus sees Xena and smiles. There are six green eggs between her and Prometheus.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hercules wakes up and sees the sword is gone. With the rope gone, Hercules has to climb the wall without.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Elsewhere.

GABRIELLE
You're going to make it, Iolaus. I know you will.

IOLAUS
Yeah, sure.

GABRIELLE
Let me tell you another story.

IOLAUS
Yeah.

GABRIELLE
Once, a long, long time ago, all people had four
legs and two heads. And then the gods threw
down thunderbolts, and split everyone into two.
Each half then had two legs and one head. But
the separation left both sides with a desperate
yearning to be reunited, because they each shared
the same soul. And ever since then, all people
spend their lives searching for the other half
of their soul.

Iolaus losses consciousness.

GABRIELLE
Iolaus? Iolaus.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Xena moves through the eggs. A hand breaks out of one and grabs her throat. Xena fights the Green Egg Men. Xena faces off with the Green Egg Men and gives her yell. Hercules arrives.

HERCULES
Xena!

Xena flips over the Green Egg Men.

HERCULES
Hey!

The Green Egg Men ignore Xena and take on Hercules. Xena whistles and tosses Hercules her sword.

XENA
I'll free Prometheus!

The winged reptile flies down and grabs Xena in it's claws, flying off with her.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Xena ties the rope to the winged reptile's leg.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hercules fights the Green Egg Men.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The winged reptile reaches its head down, but Xena punches it. It drops her, but with the rope tied, she hangs from its claws.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hercules fights the Green Egg Men.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The winged reptile flies with Xena into a mountain range. Xena is slammed into the mountain face. They move to another set, but Xena gets her feet on a rock and flips up onto the winged reptile's back.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hercules fights the Green Egg Men.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Xena draws the Sword of Hephaestus and kills the winged reptile.

XENA
Hercules!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hercules hears Xena.

XENA
The sword!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Xena throws the sword. The winged reptile slides and Xena is thrown off.

XENA
Ah-h-h-h!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hercules grabs a rock and holds it up. The sword hits it and shoots into one of the chains that bind Prometheus.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Xena comes flying to Earth.

XENA
Hercules!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hercules tosses the rock behind him, knocking out the remaining Green Egg Men and moves to catch Xena.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Xena falls.

XENA
Ah-h-h-h-h-h-h-h.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hercules moves to catch Xena.

XENA
Ah-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-ohh!

Hercules catches Xena.

HERCULES
Nice of you to drop in.

Puts her down.

XENA
Hah!

Prometheus pulls out the chains that hold him to the rock as the winged reptile falls down dead behind him.

XENA
He's free.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Elsewhere. The torch is lit. Gabrielle is sad for a moment, sure one friend is dead. Iolaus wakes up.

Later. Xena and Hercules move along while Gabrielle tends to Iolaus under a tree.

IOLAUS
You know, that wound can't take much more attention.

Gabrielle and Iolaus laugh.

GABRIELLE
You're right. It'll be fine.

IOLAUS
Yeah.

GABRIELLE
Iolaus, when you were kind of delirious back
there towards the end, did you hear a story I
told you?

IOLAUS
No, uh, I was out.

GABRIELLE
Oh. Well, it was nice getting to know you.

IOLAUS
It was more than nice.

GABRIELLE
Hmm.

They kiss.

GABRIELLE
Hmm.

Gabrielle smiles.

Hercules and Xena.

HERCULES
Good-byes are never easy. We do make a good team.

XENA
No argument.

HERCULES
Just be safe.

XENA
You've taught me what to look for in life, Hercules.
Thank you.

They kiss.

XENA
'Til we meet again.

Xena leaves.

Xena and Gabrielle move off. Hercules and Iolaus watch them go. Gabrielle looks back. Iolaus holds up a hand and Gabrielle waves good-bye.

IOLAUS
Hercules?

HERCULES
Yeah?

IOLAUS
Do you believe that everyone has someone out
there that shares a part of their soul?

Xena looks back.

HERCULES
I know it.

Xena raises her hand and smiles. Hercules raises his hand. The heroines move off.
